Taking Advantage of Facebook’s New Hotspot Feature Could Increase Your Customer Traffic

Tired of defaulting to the nearest fast food chain when in need of a Wi-Fi hotspot? Now there’s a way to locate the nearest hotspot with Facebook.

In 2016, the network tested out its hotspot locator feature on a select group of countries. Now, according to Business Insider, it’s available across the globe for both Android and iOS.

Use new @Facebook 'Find Wi-Fi' feature to drive traffic to your business. #businessexposure #customertraffic #digitaladvertising Click To Tweet

Simply launch Facebook, select the menu icon (located next to the notifications globe at the far right), and choose the “Find Wi-Fi” option. A map of nearby hotspots will show you where the nearest café, bar, or other public place is in relation to your location.

However, keep in mind that businesses or public places with hotspots need to manually add their Wi-Fi network to Facebook in order to be visible on the hotspot map.

HOW TO FIND WIFI LOCATIONS ON FACEBOOK
1. Open Facebook
2. Click Menu
3. Click Find Wifi
4. View all Wifi

If you want your place of business to appear on the hotspot map, make it a priority to do so quickly. The feature is likely to receive significant attention from users once word gets around. If you are thinking, “Nah, my business doesn’t need to be on the map,” here are a couple of reasons you should reconsider:

1. Increased Exposure

The more users are exposed to your business name, the better. When they see your name listed as a hotspot on social media, there will be a positive association with your business as an entity that keeps up with the tech-savvy times.

2. More Potential Customer Traffic

Rarely does a college student or digital freelancer use the Wi-Fi in a Java’s café or McDonald’s without purchasing at least a cup of coffee. The average consumer feeds off of Wi-Fi, meaning more potential customers choosing your business for their hotspot needs and increasing the likelihood that they will make a purchase during their time there.
